ISIS militants held in a Russian prison hold two guard’s hostages
ISIS militants held in a prison in Russia’s southern Rostov region have taken two guards’ hostage, the prison service said Sunday.
The prison administration said in a statement that “the detainees detained in one of the cells of detention center No. 1 … In the Rostov region they took two guards’ hostage… Negotiations are underway to release the hostages”.
A source in the security forces said in response to questions from the Russian TASS news agency that among the guards were ISIS members who were supposed to appear in court on terrorism charges.
Russia has seen several attacks and attacks claimed by ISIS.
On March 22, gunmen opened fire inside a concert hall near Moscow, killing at least 144 people and wounding hundreds, the highest toll from an assault on Russian soil since 2004.
The attack was claimed by Islamic State.
Twenty people have since been arrested, including the four attackers, all of whom hail from Tajikistan, the former Soviet republic in Central Asia and neighboring Afghanistan.
