Iraq: A large explosion reported at the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces militia

The Popular Mobilization Forces confirmed, at dawn on Saturday, that an explosion had occurred at its headquarters in the Kalsu military base, north of Babil Governorate, in the center of the country.

The authority stated in a statement, “An explosion occurred at a headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces at the Kalsu military base in the al Mashrou’ district on the highway, north of Babil Governorate”.

The statement added, “An investigation team immediately arrived at the scene, and the explosion caused material losses and injuries; Details will be provided once the preliminary investigation is completed”.

Earlier on Saturday, local Baghdad Today news agency reported that “unidentified aircraft targeted the headquarters of the Promised Day Brigade of the Popular Mobilization Forces with two missiles at the Kalsu base in Babil Governorate”.

For its part, the local Shafaq News agency quoted an unnamed security source as recording the injury of three members of the Popular Mobilization Forces during a missile strike that targeted the Kalsu military base.

The source said that the base was targeted by three missiles of unknown origin, causing the injury of three members of the crowd and causing material damage, adding that the civil defense teams were able to control the large fire caused by the bombing inside the base, which also includes members of the Iraqi army and the federal police.
