Leaked lecture by Iranian General Behrouz Ethbati reveals the backstage of the fall of the Assad regime and Russia’s role in marginalizing Iran.

Iranian activists and journalists circulated what was said to be a leaked lecture given by Iranian General Behrouz Ethbati, one of the commanders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and the last general to leave Syria during Bashar al Assad’s escape to Moscow.

In the hour-long lecture, Ethbaiti spoke about the details of the final moments of the collapse of the Assad regime, and revealed Russia’s role in marginalizing Iran, in addition to the corruption of the Syrian leadership.

General Ethbati explained that Russia played a major role in marginalizing Iran after October 7, as all its moves were in Israel’s interest.

He revealed that Israel targeted the Iranian intelligence base “Sadiq” in Damascus, after Russia disabled all its radars.

He pointed out that Russia played a pivotal role in the assassination of Iranian Revolutionary Guard leaders, including the killing of General Sayyed Razi in the Mezzeh area of Damascus.

He described Russia as “deceiving Bashar al Assad” by supporting Israel in bombing Iranian Revolutionary Guard sites in Syria.

My evidence confirmed that by 2 AM, the Iranian leadership realized that Damascus would fall into the hands of the armed opposition, and decided to withdraw from Syria.

He pointed out that Iran presented a strategic plan based on ground military action, but Bashar al Assad adopted Russia’s plan, which relied on air strikes against the opposition in Idlib.

He criticized the corruption rampant in the ranks of the Syrian leadership, noting that the Baath Party generals, and political leaders lived a life isolated from the suffering of the people, even in the simplest matters such as electricity.

The Iranian commander described Bashar al Assad’s younger brother, Major General, and commander of the fourth armored division, Maher al Assad as “cursed,” referring to his checkpoints, which were used to collect bribes, including from buses of Iraqi visitors.

“My evidence revealed that Iran asked Bashar al Assad to open the Golan front against Israel, and offered military support from Iran and Hezbollah, but Assad categorically refused to enter into a confrontation with Israel,” Ethbati said.

He spoke about the pressure of the Saudi-Egyptian-Emirati axis on Bashar al Assad to marginalize Iran.

He pointed out that the visit of former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Syria wasn’t welcomed appropriately by the Syrian regime, compared to the reception of the UAE Foreign Minister.

General Ethbati concluded his lecture by describing Iran’s loss in Syria as a “very difficult defeat,” noting that Bashar al Assad was described by Revolutionary Guard commander as a “monster,” after he abandoned communication with Russia to prevent Israeli strikes on the Popular Mobilization Forces.
