Iranian Foreign Minister: We’re ready for war and the situation in Iran is under control
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Monday that the demonstrations in Iran have turned violent in some areas, stressing that security forces have dealt with them calmly.
During his meeting with the ambassadors of foreign countries accredited in Tehran, Araghchi explained that armed groups that he described as “terrorist” infiltrated the ranks of the demonstrators, noting that security forces were shot at during the protests, and the gunmen targeted demonstrators and security personnel alike.
He added that the Iranian government has taken measures and reforms in response to the protesters’ demands, pointing out that his country has evidence of weapons distribution during the demonstrations, and called for non-interference in Iran’s internal affairs.
Araghchi accused the United States and Israel of being behind the unrest, stressing that Tehran has documents proving their involvement, as well as external support received by armed groups.
He noted that the security situation in the country is now under full control, announcing that internet service will soon return to embassies and ministries.
He also revealed information regarding countries where protests are being planned inside Iran, stressing at the same time that his country is ready for war and for dialogue.
The protests in Iran began in late December 2025 due to the depreciation of the local currency, the Iranian rial.
The main focus of the protests has been on sharp fluctuations in the exchange rate and their impact on wholesale and retail prices.
Videos of protesters in Tehran and other cities have gone viral on social media.
In this context, the head of the Central Bank of Iran, Mohammad Reza Farzin, resigned, and was succeeded by Abdolnasser Hemmati.
In several Iranian cities, protests escalated into clashes with police, accompanied by chants against the current political system, and injuries were reported among both security forces and protesters.
