Iran stern warning message to UAE over two disputed islands: Our forces will deal severe blows to Ras al Khaimah
Iran’s military on Saturday warned the United Arab Emirates against allowing attacks from its territory on the disputed islands of Abu Musa and Greater and Lesser Tunb in the Gulf near the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
“We warn the UAE, if any attacks from the territory of this country are repeated on the islands of Abu Musa and the Greater, Lesser Tunb in the Gulf,” Iran’s Central Military Operations Room said in a statement carried by the Iranian Tasnim news agency, that Iran’s strong armed forces will deal severe blows to Ras al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates.
The islands of Abu Musa and the Greater and the Lesser Tunb, which are controlled by Iran and claimed sovereignty by the UAE, are at the center of a long-running dispute between the two countries.
These three islands are located in the Gulf near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s oil usually passes.
However, maritime traffic has been disrupted by the regional war, which began with US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28 and has since spread across the Middle East.
Iran accuses Gulf states of allowing US forces to launch attacks from its territory, and has launched missile strikes and drones against what it calls US interests in those countries throughout the war.
