A joint naval exercise between India and nine African countries, including the host country, will continue in Tanzania until next Saturday, as part of New Delhi’s efforts to strengthen its defense ties with Africa.

In addition to India and Tanzania, the Comoros, Djibouti, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, and South Africa are participating in this naval exercise.

Tanzanian Defense Minister Stergomena Lawrence Tax said the exercise marks the beginning of a new phase of the strategic partnership between India and Africa, adding that regional cooperation is no longer an option, but a necessity.

During her supervision of the launch of the maneuvers, Tax emphasized that maritime threats destabilize economic stability, and through the major naval exercise between India and Africa, we are acquiring the skills and strategies to protect our coasts and cooperate with others in real time.

Indian naval officials said these exercises reflect their country’s shared commitment to ensuring peace and security in the Indian Ocean region, as well as enhancing the participating countries’ ability to respond to maritime threats and fostering regional cooperation.

The exercises, held off Tanzania’s longest coastline in East Africa, include training on coordinated maritime patrols, rescue operations, and tactical exercises.
