He Syrian president arrives in Moscow on a sudden visit

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday received his Syrian counterpart Bashar al Assad at the Kremlin Palace in the Russian capital, Moscow.

The two presidents held a meeting to discuss a number of important issues.

Putin welcomed Assad at the start of the meeting, noting that discussions will include bilateral relations and the tense situation in the region.00:15

Putin explained that the talks will also address trade and economic relations between Russia and Syria, stressing that there are many issues that need to be discussed.

Putin said, “Mr. President, I am pleased to see you… We haven’t met in a long time and this is an opportunity to fully discuss our relationships…
There are many economic and trade issues that need to be discussed, and there are promising trends as well… I hope we can talk about it”.

For his part, Syrian President Assad stressed that the two countries have passed difficult tests over the past decades, and have been able to maintain a high level of trust in their relations, which indicates the maturity of these relations.

Meanwhile, some speculations indicates, that Syrian-Turkish normalization is on the top agenda.
