The Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, announced on Wednesday that a number of soldiers were killed and wounded in an attack targeting a newly established Israeli site southeast of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.

These operations come as part of the Palestinian factions’ response to the genocide being perpetrated by Israel in the Gaza Strip, for 22 months.

The Qassam Brigades said in a statement that a force of its fighters, “consisting of an infantry platoon” (without mentioning the number), stormed the site, where Merkava 4 tanks were targeted using “Shawaz” and “commando” explosive devices, in addition to “al Yasin 105” anti-Tank shells.

The Qassam Brigades added that its fighters shelled homes where Israeli soldiers were holed up with six anti-fortification and anti-personnel missiles, in addition to machine gun fire, before storming them and killing those inside at point-blank range using small arms and hand grenades.

The statement also announced that a Qassam fighter had shot and fatally wounded the commander of a Merkava 4 tank, while mortar shells targeted sites surrounding the operation to cut off supply routes and prevent rescue forces from reaching it.

The Qassam fighters continued to bombard the site with mortar shells to secure their withdrawal, adding that one of the “martyrdom-seekers” blew himself up in an Israeli rescue force as soon as it arrived, causing a number of deaths and injuries, while the attack continued for hours.

Reports indicated that Israeli helicopters were seen landing to evacuate the casualties.
