Germany Increases Arms Shipments to Israel Beyond Previous Estimates
The German government is significantly expanding its licenses for arms deliveries to Israel, beyond previous estimates, according to information released by the Foreign Ministry on Thursday.
The Foreign Ministry said that since August, the total value of approvals for the export of military equipment to Israel has reached more than 94 million Euros ($101.4 million).
This is more than double the €45.74 million in approvals that the Economy Ministry reported to the Economic Committee of the Bundestag, the lower house of the German Bundestag, for the entire year to October 13.
The new figure was revealed in response to a query from a lawmaker who opposes arms transfers.
Arms shipments to Israel have been a contentious issue for months.
Last year, the German coalition government approved arms shipments to Israel worth a total of 326.5 million Euros, including 20.1 million Euros worth of military equipment.
Most of these export permits were issued in the wake of Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
