The German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced, on Monday, that a solution based on dividing Cyprus into two states isn’t possible, and that Germany will continue to press for calming tensions on the island.

“Germany stands firmly by your side,” Baerbock said during a joint press conference with her Cypriot counterpart, Ioannis Kasoulides.

The German Foreign Minister said, “A solution can only be reached on the basis of United Nations resolutions”.

Türkiye doesn’t recognize the Greek Cypriot government, and attempts to broker a peace agreement between the two sides have failed.

Responding in a press conference question, the Foreign Minister Greek Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides said, “Partition cannot be a solution”.

Kasoulides added, “There are three upcoming elections in Cyprus, Greece and Türkiye, and certainly no efforts to move forward to resume dialogue will begin until after the Turkish elections.
