German Economics Minister and Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck proposed restrictions on exports of certain technology products to China.

In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper, Habeck added responding to a question about whether Germany should impose restrictions on the export of advanced technology to China.

“We must prevent the loss of technological leadership because we don’t look at the issue with sufficient attention”.

“Restrictions on exports shouldn’t be imposed on everything, but should be tightened on certain vital sectors,” he said.

It’s worth mentioning that such statements are the first time that a German government official has spoken of supporting the imposition of such restrictions on exporting technology to China in light of the escalation of geopolitical tensions between China and the West.
