German Bundestag rejects proposal to halt arms exports to Israel
The German Bundestag has rejected a proposal by the BSW party entitled “No weapons for war in Gaza, stop arms exports to Israel”.
PSW MP Sevim Dağdelen, late Thursday night, stressed that Israeli attacks on Gaza no longer have anything to do with self-defense.
Dağdelen noted that thousands of Palestinian children are at risk of hunger, and that the main culprit is Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right government, which blocks humanitarian aid shipments to Gaza.
She called the refusal of Bundestag, from the Green alliance to the AfD, to impose a freeze on arms sales to Israel as shameful.
Referring to reports that the Israeli military used German weapons as a war crime, she said, “The German government unscrupulously supplies weapons and ammunition to Israel… We in the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance believe that you have to put an end to this complicity”.
Left Party parliamentarian Nicole Gohlke backed the proposal, saying, “This is the collective punishment of tens of thousands of innocent people”.
“We’re surprised to see that the German government is taking one side in this conflict and cannot sympathize with all the victims of this war who are demanding an end to it”.
In his speech to the Bundestag, the ruling wing reiterated its support for Israel, arguing that the PSW, which rejected its proposal, was playing an ideological game.
