On Sunday, the new Chief of Staff of the Israeli army, Eyal Zamir, conducted a field tour inside Syrian territory, in the so-called security zone, which Israel occupied after December 8.

“The Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, conducted a field tour to assess the situation inside the safe zone deep inside Syria,” the Israeli military said in a statement.

He was accompanied on the tour by the commander of the Northern Command, Uri Gordin, and the commander of the 210th Division, Brigadier General Yair Fly, along with a number of military commanders.

Its noteworthy that the Israeli army took control of the demilitarized buffer zone in the Golan Heights and the strategic Mount Hermon area after the fall of the Assad regime on December 8, 2024.

Israel announced the collapse of the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement with Syria, which was met with widespread Syrian, Arab and international rejection.

The Israeli military also launched hundreds of airstrikes targeting military sites across Syria, destroying warplanes, missiles and air defense systems.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel will remain in what it calls the “security zone” inside Syrian territory for an indefinite period.
