Angry Polish farmers blocked a major highway linking Poland with Germany with their tractors, in the latest protest move denouncing the European Union’s agricultural policy and the exemption of Ukrainian goods from customs duties.

The demonstration was organized in A2 highway, blocking traffic in both directions at the Swiecko and Gubinek crossings, which prompted the authorities in this country to divert transport traffic in the region and find an alternative route between Berlin and Warsaw that would allow the passage of about 18,000 trucks daily.

Two years ago, the European Union exempted Ukrainian farmers from customs duties on the grains they export to bloc countries, which, in the opinion of their Polish counterparts, is the reason for the collapse in the prices of their agricultural products.
