Erdogan: We will use the S400 if Turkey came under attack and agreed with Putin to involve us in the production process
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country would use the Russian S400 missile defense systems if Turkey was under attack.
“Of course, we’ll be entitled to use these systems at any time or place if need be”, Erdogan told reporters on his flight on his return flight from Bosnia.
This weapon is for air defense, and we’ll operate it if we’re attacked.
This is why we invest, in the purchase of these weapons”.
Erdogan said he had agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin to involve Turkey in the production of S400 missiles defense system.
Erdogan also said that US President Donald Trump acknowledged during their meeting in Osaka on the sidelines of the G20 summit recently that the issue of S400 resulted from “mistakes” committed by the previous administration of Barack Obama, during which he rejected Turkey’s request to buy Patriot air defense systems.
The Turkish president quoted Trump as saying he was right in his position to buy the S400, which the United States is demanding Turkey to scrap its deal.
