Erdogan: Syrian opposition advances towards Damascus and we hope for less harm
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in remarks he made after Friday prayers, expressed his hope that the Syrian opposition would continue its advance without problems or losses.
He stressed that the opposition now controls Idlib, Aleppo, and Hama, and that the main goal is to advance towards Damascus.
Erdogan pointed out that Türkiye had previously called on President Assad to hold talks on the future of Syria, but Assad didn’t respond to those calls.
He stressed that the Syrian opposition is continuing its advance towards Homs, and the main goal is to reach Damascus.
Erdogan added, “The region is full of challenges, and we don’t want the escalation to continue… We’ll do what is necessary, and we are closely following the developments in Syria through our intelligence and the media”.
