Erdogan: Israel’s occupation of Damascus will tear up the entire map of Syria
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has issued a stern warning that “Israel’s occupation of the Syrian capital Damascus will lead to the complete tearing up of the map of Syria”.
The Turkish President also stressed that Ankara will strongly support the achievement of urgent and lasting peace in the country.
Speaking to reporters on his return from a visit to Albania, Erdogan criticized Israeli threats against both Lebanon and Syria, stressing that “occupying Damascus would be a very dangerous regional threat”.
Erdogan explained that Israel has explicitly declared its intention to occupy Damascus after Lebanon, which means that Israeli forces will approach the Turkish border, which will greatly affect the unity of Syrian territory.
He added that occupying Damascus will pave the way for Israel to reach northern Syria, which he considers a direct threat to the stability of the entire region, according to what was reported by the Turkish Presidency’s Communications Department.
Erdogan called for the need to confront Israel, which he described as “the biggest real threat to regional and global peace,” noting the importance of international solidarity to confront this danger.
He also expressed his country’s readiness to support efforts to achieve sustainable peace in Syria.
He also pointed out that the Israeli forces will find themselves facing fierce resistance from the defenders of their homeland, in every area they try to occupy.
The Turkish President concluded his statements by stressing that Syria has suffered enough, and the international community must reject any new escalation that increases the suffering of the Syrian people.
He stressed that Türkiye has always affirmed its respect for the territorial integrity of Syria since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis, and that its closely monitoring the steps taken by Russia, as it’s a major partner of Syria in the conflict.
