Russian President Vladimir Putin said that trade exchange between his country and the African continent increased by 10% during the year 2024, and that many Russian companies are showing increasing interest in working in the Guinea-Bissau market.

Putin added during talks he held, Wednesday, in the Kremlin with Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, who is on an official visit to Russia, that Moscow has increased the quota allocated to Guinean students to study in the country during the current year, especially in military specialties.

Putin spoke about the development of Russian-Guinean relations successfully on the basis of mutual respect and growing trust, noting that this year marks the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

For his part, the President of Guinea-Bissau thanked his Russian counterpart for raising the quota allocated to Guinean military personnel and students for training and study in Russia.

Embalo stressed that his visit to Moscow aims to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two countries, noting that the Russian people are brothers to the people of Guinea-Bissau.

The two presidents discussed prospects for developing bilateral cooperation in various fields, in addition to current international and regional issues and the two countries’ positions on them.

Putin and Embalo had a telephone conversation last January, during which they discussed ways to enhance their cooperation in the trade, economic, investment and humanitarian fields.
