Disagreement between the Czech Republic and Germany over reduced gas supplies
Czech Republic has been accused Germany of reducing the amount of natural gas reaching it by reducing the operating capacity of a gas pipeline as European countries struggle to find alternative supplies to Russian gas.
This came when the Minister of Industry and Trade, Jozef Sikela’s comments as he said, “German gas pipeline operator Gascade, Gas Transport had reduced the operating capacity of one of the interconnection points on his country’s northwestern border”.
The Czech Minister said in a letter to EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson that the quantities of gas reaching his country through this line will drop to 14.5 Gigawatt hours from the first of next October from 69 Gigawatt hours currently.
The Czech Minister also sent the same letter to the German Economy Minister Robert Habeck.
Gas supplies from western to eastern Europe will be vital as the EU tries to reduce dependence on fossil fuel supplies from Moscow.
Germany has been one of the hardest victim of the energy crisis and relies on growing imports of liquefied natural gas and electricity from neighboring countries.
