Amnesty International’s report said that Egypt had allowed a ship carrying explosives to Israel to dock, caused a wide uproar on social media, to which the military spokesman for the Egyptian Armed Forces responded, denying these allegations completely.

“The Egyptian government allowed the German-flagged ship MV Katherin, believed to be carrying explosives for Israel, to dock and unload at the port of Alexandria on Monday, despite the risk that this shipment could contribute to war crimes in Gaza,” Amnesty said in part of the lengthy report published on its official website.

Amnesty’s report continued, “International humanitarian law prohibits states from transferring weapons to a party to an armed conflict where there is a risk that they may contribute to the commission of war crimes/violations of international humanitarian law… Egypt must not assist or facilitate this illegal transfer”.

For his part, the Egyptian military spokesman responded in his statement published on his Facebook page, “The Egyptian Armed Forces categorically deny what has been circulated on social media and suspicious accounts and what is being promoted about helping Israel in its military operations in general and in detail, and stresses that there is no form of cooperation with Israel, and while calling on everyone to verify the accuracy of the information being circulated, and stresses that the Armed Forces are the shield and sword of the homeland to protect its capabilities and defend its great people”.

A senior Egyptian source responded to reports that the port of Alexandria had received a ship carrying weapons on its way to Israel, denying this, according to what was reported by official Egyptian media outlets on Thursday.

The source, who was described as senior, said, “There is no truth to what was reported in some biased media outlets about the port of Alexandria receiving the German ship Katherin, which is carrying military supplies for Israel.”

The source added, “The lies come in an attempt by elements and mouthpieces opposed to the Egyptian state to distort Egypt’s historical and established role in supporting the Palestinian cause and people”.

In this regard, several media outlets published news about the arrival of the aforementioned ship to the port of Alexandria, and the news was widely circulated on social media platforms.

Egyptian Lawyer Ahmed Abu el Ela Madi said that he filed a complaint with the Attorney General against the Egyptian Prime Minister in his capacity and the head of the Alexandria Port Authority regarding the German ship that he claimed was in the port of Alexandria on October 28.

Information has been reported that the company that owns the ship is linked to commercial activities with an Egyptian company owned by a senior officer in the Egyptian Navy, as the company is run by his daughter, as this company is linked to commercial activities with Israel.

Reports confirmed that the ship’s cargo had been unloaded at Port No. 22, a military port affiliated with the Egyptian Navy, and that the explosives shipment would then be loaded onto another ship, heading to the port of Ashdod in Israel.
