Two people have been killed in Russian strikes on the Zaporizhia region in southern Ukraine, Governor Ivan Fedorov said.

“A man and a woman were killed by enemy shelling,” Fedorov said on Telegram and another man was wounded.

The governor counted 391 Russia attacks on ten towns in the Zaporizhia region in the last twenty-four hours.

The southern region of Zaporizhia, which Russia reports annexed it, often sees strikes, one of which left seven dead and about forty wounded, at the end of June.

Eight people were wounded on Wednesday in a raid by Ukrainian drones on the site of a plant branching off the Russia-occupied Zaporizhia nuclear plant, according to Russia’s Rosatom group, which denounces the proliferation of attacks.

The Russian military controlled large swathes of this area but doesn’t fully control it.

The Russian military has attacked Zaporizhia and neighboring cities several times since his invasion of Ukraine began in 2022, but in recent weeks he has focused his efforts mainly in the east rather than the south.

The Ukrainian air force on Thursday announced the downing of 21 of the 22 Shahid drones used in a Russian attack overnight.

Ukrainian air defenses shot down drones over six regions in northern and central Ukraine, it said.

The governor of the northern region of Chernihiv said one of the drones had struck a facility in the area, without giving further details.

The governor of Dnipropetrovsk said air defenses shot down two drones over his region.
