US legislation to impose sanctions on some Chinese officials after the National Security Act was activated in Hong Kong awaits the signature of President Donald Trump, agencies said.

The agency quoted a US administration official as telling reporters on Saturday that Trump is considering taking two or three measures against China, and there is a high possibility that an action will be revealed soon, probably within days.

The official did not specify what the possible measures were or provide other details.

Hong Kong’s National Security Law puts China on a collision course with the United States, Britain and other Western governments that considered the law to undermine much of the autonomy Hong Kong acquired when it was delivered to China in 1997.
