US President Joe Biden calls on Monday, to support his Vice President Kamala Harris to run for president.
Biden urged supporters on Monday to support Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy for the presidential race, saying his withdrawal from the competition was the right decision.
Calling his campaign team, Biden said, “I want to say to the team, support it… She’s the best”.
Commenting on his decision to withdraw, he added, “I know yesterday’s news was sudden and difficult for you to hear, but it was the right decision”.
Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign said on Monday it had raised $81 million in donations within 24 hours after President Joe Biden announced his support for her to be a presidential candidate following his withdrawal.
Kamala Harris, the closest name to the Democratic presidential nomination in the US presidential election scheduled for November 5, is the top fundraiser and has set a record fundraiser.
According to a statement issued by her team, $81 million was donated to Harris in the past 24 hours, after Biden put her name forward to run for president instead.
According to US media, the figure was recorded as the highest donation amount reached in 24 hours.
During the US presidential election, donations are closely tracked, in terms of their size and the number of donors, as they give an idea of the outcome of the election.
The US vice president vowed, on Sunday evening, to win the Democratic nomination for the upcoming presidential election and beat Republican candidate Donald Trump in the November 5 elections.
On Sunday, US President Joe Biden announced in a statement his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race and expressed his full support and support for Vice President Harris to be replaced by a Democratic presidential candidate.
