Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Tuesday that an agreement had been reached to turn off the microphones at the September 10 presidential debate with his Democratic rival Kamala Harris.

The two campaigns traded barbs over the debate, with Harris’s team seeking to return to a full-time microphone system and Trump threatening to walk out entirely after suggesting the network was biased.

In a social media post Tuesday, Trump said the rules for next month’s debate would be the same as those for CNN’s June debate against President Joe Biden, whose poor performance led to his withdrawal from the election.

“We’ve been assured by ABC that this will be a ‘fair and just’ debate, and that neither side will be given questions in advance,” Trump said.

There was no attendance at the CNN debate, and Trump made no mention of that in his post.

The Harris campaign had said it wanted the announcer to keep the candidates’ microphones on throughout the debate, without muting them while the opponent was speaking, as happened in the last presidential debate.
