A senior Armenian official said on Saturday that his country is ready to sign a peace agreement with Azerbaijan if Baku shows political will like his country, adding that it’s also keen to make progress in normalizing relations with Türkiye.

Yerevan and Baku in December expressed their desire to reach a peace agreement after decades of disputes, but no agreement has been concluded between them so far.

The most prominent divisive issues between the two parties for a long time are those related to the Nagorno-Karabakh region in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani forces regained control of the mountainous region in September after years of control by Armenian forces.

Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan said that his country has the political will to normalize relations with Azerbaijan on the basis of the principles previously agreed upon by the two sides.

“This is a matter of leadership and political will,” he added in an interview with Reuters during the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in Türkiye.

He stated that his country had shown the necessary political will on several occasions, including during the talks held, Friday, between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Türkiye.

Türkiye has strengthened its political and military relations with Azerbaijan in recent years, but it’s currently working to restore relations with Armenia after decades of hostility between them.
