After the Israeli attack on Qatar… mediation and negotiations have an unknown fate and Hamas leadership seeks to relocate to Türkiye
The leadership of Hamas and Islamic Jihad is currently facing high levels of political pressure, exclusively from Arab mediators, in a manner that could undermine communications and end negotiations.
This pressure stems from the new proposal by US envoy Witkoff, which resistance circles consider a cosmetic attempt to replace the previous imposed proposal.
Arab mediators, particularly in Qatar and Egypt, have begun threatening to “terminate mediation” altogether if Witkoff’s proposal is rejected outright, creating a new level of pressure.
Due to the type of pressure exerted on the resistance to accept the idea of ”leaving and surrendering weapons” in exchange for personal guarantees from President Donald Trump to end the war completely, the resistance was forced to discuss coordination meetings it should hold with other resistance factions in the hope that the mediators’ positions would change, the pressure would ease, or a unified factional stance would emerge.
Contacts are currently underway at various levels in Türkiye, with the hope of an intervention and breakthrough from Ankara that would ease the pressure on Hamas in particular, which believes the military situation on the ground is not in the enemy’s favor and doesn’t justify agreeing to an agreement closer to surrender and the Israeli formula.
