A private plane takes off from the Hmeimim base in Syria carrying diplomats

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that a Russian Air Force plane took off from the Hmeimim airbase in Syria with diplomats from Russia, Belarus and North Korea on board.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s crisis management via Telegram channel, confirmed that the work of the Russian embassy in Damascus is continuing.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry said that all its diplomats had been evacuated from Syria.

In this context, part of the Russian diplomatic staff was also evacuated from the capital Damascus, as explained in a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Part of the Russian diplomatic staff was withdrawn on December 15 on a special flight of the Russian Air Force that left the Hmeimim base heading to the Chkalovsky airport in Russia.

The statement reported that diplomats from Belarus, North Korea and Abkhazia were among those evacuated.

However, the Russian embassy in Damascus continues to work normally.
