A deep concern in the US due to the lack of clarity on how Iran will respond
NBC quoted Pentagon and White House officials as saying that “the next 48 hours are of great concern,” as “the locations that might be targeted by Iranian retaliation aren’t yet clear”.
NBC also quoted US officials as saying that it’s unclear whether any retaliation will target sites inside or outside the US, and whether the response will come directly from Tehran or through its “proxies” in the region.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing US officials, that Washington informed Tehran that the strikes targeting nuclear facilities in Iran were a “one-time operation” and not the beginning of a war aimed at regime change.
Meanwhile, Iranian Fars News Agency quoted sources as saying that Iran intends to carry out surprise operations against Israel, while continuing to monitor US bases in the region, in response to the strikes targeting its nuclear reactors.
The sources said, “Tehran’s strategy is focused on eliminating Israel as America’s primary base, adding that US intervention shouldn’t hinder the implementation of its plans against the Zionist entity”.
