Axios: Nearly half of Democrats didn’t attend the State of the Union speech
Nearly half of the Democratic members of the Senate and House of Representatives didn’t attend President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address to Congress, according to Axios website.
In a report published on Tuesday, the website noted that 20 Democratic senators and fewer than 110 Democratic lawmakers were present when Trump’s speech began, which is equivalent to nearly half of the total Democratic members of Congress.
Among those who boycotted the speech was Democratic Rep. Katherine Clark, who said ahead of the speech: “Instead of listening to Donald Trump lying to the American people, I’m going to listen to the people in my constituency”.
Democratic House members Bill Foster, Lauren Underwood, and Madeleine Dean left the Capitol shortly after the speech began.
On Tuesday, Trump delivered a State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress, during which he reviewed the most prominent foreign policy files during the first year of his second term.
