Former IDF general: The war in Gaza has lost its purpose

Former Major General in the Reserve and former Commissioner for Soldiers’ Complaints in the Israeli Army, Yitzhak Brik, confirmed that the war in Gaza has lost its purpose, and that its continuation for about 9 months without achieving the stated goals, costs Israel losses on more than one level.

In an interview with the Israeli Maariv newspaper, Brik stressed that the war on Gaza is continuing only for the benefit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Regarding the operations in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, the former Israeli official acknowledged that Israeli goals have not been achieved in the city, as in all of Gaza, noting that the occupation army forces did not reach many of the resistance tunnels.

Brik described what is happening in Rafah as a shame, explaining that the IDF isn’t actually fighting Hamas, but rather booby-traps the roads and we kill, admitting that the IDF lost more than 200 and thousands of wounded in the ground incursion.

“We’ve reduced the army’s capacity in 20 years to the point that it cannot defeat Hamas,” he said, speaking of a strategic defeat that Israel hasn’t seen since its inception in light of the ongoing war.

Regarding the front with Lebanon, Brik stressed that any decision by Netanyahu to attack Hezbollah will bring a holocaust to Israel, stressing that Israel cannot stop Hezbollah’s missiles and drones, wondering in this context about “what will happen in a regional war when dozens aren’t fired at us, but thousands every day?”
