Ehud Barak: Israel is facing the most serious crisis in its history
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak stressed that Israel is currently experiencing the height of a growing and evolving crisis that is far from over, stressing that the essence of the disaster lies in an unqualified government and prime minister.
Ehud Barak said in an opinion piece published in Haaretz on Thursday that Israel is in the most serious crisis in its history and began on October 7 with the most terrible failure.
“The war on Gaza continues and seems, despite the courage and sacrifices of soldiers and officers, to be the least successful war in Israel’s history due to the strategic paralysis of the leadership,” Barak added.
“We’re now facing difficult decisions between dire alternatives in terms of continuing the fighting in the Gaza Strip, expanding the operation against Hezbollah in the north and risking a multi-front war involving Iran and its proxies… All this is happening while the judicial coup continues in the background with the aim of establishing a racist religious dictatorship, extreme nationalism and obscurantist messianic messiah”.
The former Israeli prime minister said in his article that the crisis requires mobilizing everything that is strong, good and effective within us to return to the path of growth, empowerment, enlightenment and hope that Israel has followed during most of its years, adding, “This is the real victory”.
“At this time, we cannot afford to make any more mistakes and we have to look head-on and courageously at what happened and its causes, and then we need to resolve to fix it quickly despite the opposition that doing so will generate… This requires decisiveness, courage and action from the opposition and the ruling coalition, as well as from the Israelis as a whole”.
