Poll: 43% of Germans opposed the use of German weapons to target the Russian territories
The results of an opinion poll reveal that many Germans are reticent about the permit granted by the German government to Ukraine for limited use of German weapons against targets inside Russia.
This came in the representative poll conducted by the INSA Institute for the German Focus magazine and its results were published on Thursday.
The results showed that a relative majority of those surveyed 43% believe that this decision is wrong to some extent, compared to 38% who believe its correct to some extent, while 8% didn’t express interest in the decision, another 8% said they couldn’t answer the poll question and 3% expressed unwillingness to answer the question.
It should be noted that by approving the use of German weapons on Russian soil about two weeks ago, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made a change in coordination with the most important coalition partners in dealing with the Russian war on Ukraine, more than two years after this war.
The change is mainly aimed at countering attacks on the Ukrainian city of Kharkov from Russian territory, where Russian forces have recently stepped up attacks and put Ukrainians in a severe predicament.
Asked if they feared Germany could put itself at risk by supporting Ukraine, 58% of respondents answered yes to some extent, compared to 28% who answered no to some extent, and 14% who couldn’t find an answer.
A relative majority of respondents supported reducing the arms Germany supplies to Ukraine, while 24% said they would like Germany to maintain the same number of weapons it supplies to Ukraine, and 20% expressed the desire for Germany to increase the amount of such weapons, and 15% of those surveyed weren’t interested, ranging from saying they didn’t know to refusing to answer.
