A top confidential Chinese military documents are sold for less than a dollar
Chinese authorities have revealed a bizarre incident in which a man managed to buy books containing classified military information from a recycling center, for a price of less than $1.
According to China’s Ministry of State Security, a retired man named Zhang bought books from a recycling shop located near his home, and paid for them only six-yuan, equivalent to about US$0.8.
Zhang discovered that the books were stamped with a “secret” mark, raising his suspicions and prompting him to contact the Ministry of State Security to hand over the books.
After investigation, the ministry discovered that the books were sold by employees of a military unit, named “Lee” and “Jiu”, who had access to this confidential data.
But Lee and Jiu apparently weren’t well aware of the importance of classified documents, and sold them instead of properly disposing of them as instructed.
The number of confidential documents found is about 200, and they were sold entirely for 0.8 yuan per kilogram, meaning that all the documents were sold for a total amount of about $2.75.
