YouTube prohibits propaganda video about Putin’s referendum against homosexuality in Russia

YouTube banned, on Thursday, a video clip promoting a referendum launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the grounds that the video contains a hate speech.
The referendum, to be held on July 1, seeks to obtain popular approval for a set of amendments to the country’s constitution, among which is a clause stating that marriage can only be between a man and a woman.
This paragraph was supported in the trailer video, which mocks a fictitious homosexual couple who adopted an orphan.
Putin said Russia would not legalize same-sex marriage as long as he remained in the presidential seat.
Gay couples are prohibited from adopting children under a law that Putin signed in 2013.
YouTube is headquartered in the United States, which allows same-sex marriage and adoption of these husbands for children.
The constitutional amendments under consideration in Russia include a clause to enable Putin to remain president until 2036, that is, 12 years after his current term expires in 2024.
