Witkoff and Kushner will conduct separate talks on Iran-Ukraine in Geneva on Tuesday
Two rounds of diplomatic negotiations on Ukraine and Iran are scheduled to take place in Geneva on Tuesday.
The US delegation including envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will meet with the Iranian side on Tuesday morning.
Witkoff and Kushner would then participate in trilateral talks with representatives of Russia and Ukraine on the same evening.
US President Donald Trump said it was up to Ukraine to take the next step on a potential peace deal with Russia, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky again refused to make concessions on his country’s territory, a key demand for Moscow.
“Russia wants to reach a deal and Zelensky will have to act, otherwise he will miss a great opportunity,” Trump told reporters outside the White House on Friday.
From his part, speaking at a Munich security conference on Friday, Zelensky again rejected Russian demands for the handover of the eastern Donbas region as a condition for peace.
Some 200,000 Ukrainians still live in Ukrainian-controlled parts of the resource-rich region, large parts of which Russia has seized since the start of the war in February 2022.
Zelensky said: “I’ve to go to them, to every apartment, knock and say, ‘Look, great idea… Forget your house, forget everything, your relatives, everything, get out of your house because that’s the great idea among big bosses”.
The Trump administration has been pressuring Kyiv to agree to abandon Donbas, a request Zelensky has consistently rejected.
