A senior White House official confirmed on Thursday that Russia will be invited to the G20 summit scheduled for December in Florida, while Moscow has yet to announce whether its president, Vladimir Putin, will attend in person.

“No formal invitation has been extended yet, but Russia is a member of the G20 and will be invited to the ministerial meetings and the leaders’ summit,” the official, who asked not to be identified, said.

The summit is scheduled to be held at a golf resort owned by the Trump family.

According to the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin as saying on Wednesday that his country had been invited to participate in the summit at the highest level.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained on Thursday that the question of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s personal participation in the summit hasn’t yet been decided.

“No decision has been made on this matter yet, but Russia has participated in every summit at the appropriate level… As the summit approaches, a decision will be made regarding the format of our participation,” Peskov said during his daily press conference.

Putin didn’t attend the previous G20 summit in Johannesburg in November 2025 due to an arrest warrant issued against him by the International Criminal Court for alleged war crimes related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Moscow was represented in South Africa by his economic advisor, Maxim Oreshkin.

The United States holds the rotating presidency of the G20 this year, a forum for economic cooperation among the world’s leading advanced and emerging economies.
