Wall Street Journal: Trump’s respect for Putin reaches the level of admiration

The Wall Street Journal reported that US President Donald Trump’s respect for his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin has been bordering on admiration since his meeting with him in 2018.
The newspaper quoted John Bolton, Trump’s former national security adviser, as saying that members of his team tried during Trump’s first presidency to convince him to view Putin with more suspicion, but they failed.
“He (Trump) believes he and Putin are really friends,” Bolton added.
Trump earlier described his recent conversation with Putin as very good.
On February 12, the Russian and US presidents discussed in a telephone conversation, among other things, the prospects for a settlement in Ukraine.
According to the Kremlin, Trump stressed the need to quickly stop the fighting and find a peaceful solution to the problem.
As for President Putin, he stressed the need to eliminate the root causes of the conflict and agreed with the US leader that a long-term settlement can be achieved through peaceful negotiations.
Its noteworthy that Trump, last month, withdrew Secret Service protection from his former National Security Adviser John Bolton, holding him responsible for launching the war on Iraq in 2003 and blowing up the Middle East.
Trump described his former adviser, Bolton, as a “stupid person” and a “warmonger”.
