Wall Street Journal: Preparations to transport 3,000 US troops from airborne forces to support operations against Iran
The Wall Street Journal reported that the US War Department is in the process of approving the deployment of 3,000 elite airborne troops to the Middle East to support military operations against Iran.
The WSJ quoted US officials as saying that the Pentagon plans to deploy about 3,000 soldiers from the elite 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East to support operations against Iran, and the written order is expected to be issued in the coming hours.
According to the WSJ, officials warn that the decision to introduce ground troops directly into Iranian territory hasn’t yet been made.
However, the relocation of the 82nd Division opens up several strategic options for US President Donald Trump to act.
Iran has warned of a resounding response to any hostile ground forces that could include a threat to Iran.
“All IRGC ground forces are at the peak of their full strength and readiness,” said Mohammad Karami, commander of the IRGC’s ground forces, vowing that “the response will be resounding in the event of any threat or aggression”.
He added, “All IRGC ground forces are at the peak of their full strength and readiness, and America, Israel and the enemies of our country will receive a resounding response in the event of any threat or aggression”.
