After honoring soldiers who fought in Ukraine by awarding them the country’s highest military award, the Gold Star Medal that accompanies the title of Hero of Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his explanation of the Russian presidential elections next year.

Putin still enjoys widespread support, after nearly a quarter of a century of remaining in power.

On Thursday, the Federation Council, the upper chamber of the Russian Duma, set a date for the country’s presidential elections on March 17, 2024, during a meeting broadcast on state television.

While the resolution unanimously adopted by Council members stipulates setting the date for the presidential elections on March 17, 2024, while Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matviyenko announced that this decision represents the beginning of the presidential campaign.

Matvienko explained that these elections will serve as the culmination of the reunification process of the Ukrainian regions of Lugansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia that Russia announced its annexation.

Matvienko said, “Despite the difficult external circumstances and the enemy’s attempts to weaken Russia, we remain loyal to our main constitutional values ​​and guarantee all rights and freedoms to citizens”.
