Victoria Nuland: The United States won’t withdraw from Syria
US Deputy Secretary of State, Victoria Nuland, announced, Tuesday, that the United States won’t withdraw its forces from Syria.
This statement came during Nuland’s interview with CNN Türk, in response to reports about the intention of the administration of President Joe Biden to withdraw US forces from Syria.
“First, let me make this point clear,” Nuland explained.
“The United States is not withdrawing from Syria… With the tragic events in the Istanbul church, it shows that ISIS is still active in multiple regions, and we have been partners with Türkiye in the fight against terrorism for decades”.
She added, “This cooperation with Türkiye must continue, whether in Iraq or Syria… Despite the sometimes-different views on how to manage this battle, it’s of the utmost importance to strengthen cooperation between us… We urgently need to support each other”.
Nuland indicated that her talks in Türkiye dealt with “strengthening cooperation in combating terrorism and establishing a dialogue on the future path in Syria, given the presence of important interests for both sides there, especially in the context of combating terrorism”.
