Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced that his country has adjusted and strengthened its national defense strategy in light of the aggressive measures and pressures it is facing.

Speaking at the 25th summit of heads of state and government of the Bolivarian Alliance of Latin American Peoples (ALBA), Maduro said: “We’ve modified and improved our vision of the national defense system, inherited from our ancestors, from the great leader Guayaquiboro and to the resistance of the Caribbean Indians”.

Venezuela has faced a series of aggressive actions in recent weeks, including military threats, as well as the seizure of a vessel carrying Venezuelan oil.

He described these measures as a complete break in legal and diplomatic channels in the region, stressing that Caracas had had to adapt its methods to ensure national security.

He suggested that ALBA member states adopt a joint response strategy to current challenges based on the united and long-term resistance of the peoples of the alliance, as well as on a coherent policy of co-building and developing a cooperative economy for mutual benefit.

He explained that this approach aims to strengthen the regional social model, based on the ideas of Latin American editors and guarantees of the right to education, health and social protection.

He stressed that the ALBA alliance should be an example of protecting international law and regional stability, in light of what he described as a period of escalation of imperialist excesses.
