US Senator Bernie Sanders called for halting US planned new military support for Israel, worth $10 billion, on the grounds that it “finances the immoral war” launched by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the Gaza Strip.
In a statement by the Senator from Vermont, Sanders continued to criticize the policies of the US government and the Netanyahu government in Gaza.
While Sanders renewed his condemnation of the Hamas attacks on October 7, he said, “We must accept that the Israeli army’s response was extremely disproportionate, immoral, and contrary to international law”.
Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, who’s a Jew, opposes providing an additional military aid package to Israel worth $10 billion, which was placed on the agenda in Congress, said, “That is enough… Congress must refuse to provide this funding”.
He added, “The funding provided by the United States will allow Netanyahu’s right-wing government to continue its brutal war against the Palestinian people, and this means unconditional military support”.
Sanders previously called for cutting off military aid to Israel and a ceasefire in Gaza, and prepared a draft law for a vote in this direction in the Senate, but the draft law was not placed on the agenda.
