A US officer working for the Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has resigned in protest at his country’s unconditional support for Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip.

In the transcript of his resignation, which he posted on his social media account on Monday, Officer Harrison Mann noted that unconditional American support for Israeli attacks on Gaza has led to the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians and the starvation of others.

He said he felt like he was living in a parallel world when he saw the extent of support for Israel and his colleagues in the Defense Intelligence Agency for Israel and its attacks on Gaza.

The US officer explained that he comes from a European Jewish family, and that he worked for 13 years in the ranks of his country’s military, while most recently working as a “Middle East intelligence analyst”.

He expressed his shame and guilt at the scenes of brutal killing and destruction emanating from Gaza over the past months, stressing that he could not continue his work ignoring all this.

The US press described Mann’s move as “the first public resignation in the US military and intelligence community”.

Mann said fear had prevented him for a few months from speaking out about the motives for his resignation.

In a letter he shared with colleagues last month and posted on Monday on his LinkedIn account, Mann wrote, “I was scared… I was afraid of violating our professional standards… I was afraid of officials I respected… I was afraid that you would feel betrayed… I’m sure some of you will feel that way when you read this”.
