US Intelligence launches campaign on social media to recruit Iranians

The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has published new instructions in Persian on social media platforms, addressed to Iranians wishing to communicate with the agency securely.

The announcement comes at a time when the region is witnessing intensified US military preparations, amid expectations that President Donald Trump shortly before the US-Israeli strike on Iran.

Trump laid the groundwork for the move during his State of the Union address on Tuesday, stressing that he wouldn’t allow Iran, which he called the world’s biggest sponsor of terrorism, to have a nuclear weapon under any circumstances.

The CIA posted its message in Persian since Tuesday through its official accounts on the X, Instagram, Facebook, Telegram and YouTube platforms, in the latest in a series of campaigns aimed at recruiting human resources inside Iran, along with China, North Korea and Russia.

The agency called on Iranians wishing to cooperate to follow appropriate safety measures before contacting, warning against using work devices or personal phones, and advising them to use new disposable devices if possible.

“Be careful who is around you, and who can see your screen or track your activity,” the message added.

The post pointed out that anyone who communicates with the agency will be required to provide his location, name, and job title, in addition to clarifying the extent to which he possesses information or skills of interest to the agency.

The instructions stressed the need to use VPNs that aren’t based in Russia, Iran or China, or rely on the famous Tor network, which provides data encryption and hides the user’s IP address.
