On Tuesday, the US House of Representatives introduced a draft resolution, with the support of the US Coalition for Syria, calling for the establishment of a special international tribunal to try Syrian officials.

The resolution also calls for the establishment of an international judicial mechanism specialized in Syria through the United Nations General Assembly, and Biden calls for America to officially announce its call for this.

The draft resolution calls for Washington’s assistance in setting up judicial and penal procedures that enable open and fair trials for those accused of committing crimes in Syria.

The draft refers to the normalization of some regional powers with Damascus in recent months, and their disregard for all accusations against the Syrian authorities.

The US State Department has previously confirmed that Washington will not hesitate to take measures and steps to hold Syrian officials accountable for what it claims are human rights violations in Syria, including through the Caesar Act.

This came in the press briefing of the Deputy Spokesperson of the US State Department, Vedant Patel, commenting on the project that members of Congress from both parties intend to present.
