It seems that the Ukrainian president has become beholden to the West, and forced to obey even with what he should wear!

Volodymyr Zelensky has made a notable change to his formal attire following his controversial meeting with US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office in February.

After usually appearing in military uniform and long-sleeved shirts, Zelensky has since opted for more formal attire, such as black jackets and dark shirts with a paramilitary feel, in a new look that combines seriousness with the field.

This change in style came after criticism from US reporters who deemed Zelensky’s attire during his meeting with Trump inappropriate for the occasion, especially amid sensitive discussions about continued US support for Ukraine during the war.

From that moment on, Zelensky appeared to be seeking to repair his country’s relations with Washington, from which Kyiv remains heavily dependent on military aid, although Trump showed no clear intention of resuming arms deliveries, which had begun under his predecessor, Joe Biden.

When he attended Pope Francis’s funeral in Rome in April, Zelensky wore a heavy black military jacket, a button-down shirt, and no tie, a look he later repeated during his meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London and at a dinner hosted by the King of the Netherlands on the eve of the NATO summit in The Hague.

Although not formally invited to the summit, Zelensky met with President Trump afterward, focusing on Ukraine’s demands for additional weapons from an expanded arms list.

Zelensky’s transformation in appearance sparked widespread interaction on social media, with one prominent Ukrainian magazine describing it as a “new form of visual diplomacy,” reflecting the Ukrainian leadership’s desire to strike a balance between the image of the president as a field commander and that of a statesman and diplomat.

On the other hand, some Ukrainians considered the focus on the president’s attire in the White House to be exaggerated, especially given the difficult circumstances the country has been experiencing since the start of the war in February 2022.
