Ukraine president’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, said on Monday that talks on the Ukraine war that took place in Saudi Arabia over the weekend had dealt a “major blow” to Russia, and that the participants had agreed to hold another meeting of political advisers in six weeks.
He added in a press statement in Kiev that the countries participating in the Jeddah meeting didn’t discuss any other peace initiatives, except for the Ukrainian one.
He stressed that all participants fully supported Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity.
For its part, the United States said on Monday that China’s presence at the talks hosted by Saudi Arabia aimed at making progress towards a peaceful settlement of the Russian war in Ukraine was positive.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters that National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland held a short meeting separately with China’s special envoy for Eurasian affairs and former ambassador to Russia Li Hui during the Jeddah talks.
