Turkish President moves diplomatically following Israeli-US aggression against Iran

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a series of phone calls with a number of leaders, against the backdrop of the attacks launched by Israel and the United States on Iran since Saturday, and Tehran’s responses to them.

In this context, Erdogan discussed the developments of the situation with US President Donald Trump, and the two sides discussed the latest developments in Iran and the Gulf countries.

He also held a call with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad, during which he expressed his wishes for the safety of Qatar against the background of the Iranian attacks on it in conjunction with the US-Israeli aggression, and was briefed on the latest developments there.

During a call with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, Erdogan expressed regret over the attacks on the UAE, and the two sides discussed the current situation in the region.

In a call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Erdogan offered his condolences and wishes for the kingdom’s safety following attacks caused by Iran’s targeting of US bases inside Saudi territory.

He stressed that the absence of the necessary intervention to contain the situation could lead to serious consequences for regional and global security.

Erdogan stated that Türkiye and Saudi Arabia have made serious efforts to resolve differences through dialogue, and pointed out that giving diplomacy a chance is the most rational approach.

Erdogan also discussed developments with the Emir  of Kuwait in a phone call.

During the call, he expressed his sadness at the attacks on Kuwait and wished it well.

He stressed that resolving problems and crises through diplomacy and negotiation is the best option, and that Türkiye will continue to do its utmost to ensure the establishment of a peaceful environment as soon as possible.

In a call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the Turkish president discussed the US-Israeli attacks on Iran and the events that followed.

Erdogan called on all parties to return to diplomacy and negotiations, expressing Ankara’s readiness to provide all kinds of support to the peace process.

He stressed the importance of continued close coordination between Türkiye and the EU at this stage.

On Sunday, Erdogan published a message of condolences on the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as a result of the US and Israeli attacks.

In a post on the Turkish platform “In Social”, he said: “I was saddened by the loss of the religious leader of our neighbor Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as a result of the attacks that took place yesterday (Saturday)”.

He added, “I ask God for mercy for Mr. Khamenei and safety for the brotherly Iranian people, and I extend my condolences to him on behalf of my country and people”.

“In Türkiye, we will resolutely continue our efforts to ensure that the Iranian people, and all our friends and brothers in the region, enjoy the peace and stability they deserve once again, end the atmosphere of conflict in our region, and return to diplomacy,” he said.
