Turkish Foreign Minister: Talks with Israel and the United States to protect Syrian airspace

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan revealed ongoing talks between Türkiye, Israel, and the United States on protecting Syrian airspace and avoiding potential escalation.

During a press conference at the conclusion of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, Fidan explained that there is a need to establish clear rules regarding Syrian airspace to prevent any conflicts between the parties involved, whether Israel or the United States.

He added that the goal of these talks is to avoid incidents that may result from aircraft movements in the region, stressing that Türkiye will reveal the details in due course.

In a related development, Fidan announced that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan plans to visit Syria in the near future.

Fidan said, “We’re in the process of setting a suitable date for this visit, and we are studying the appropriate circumstances and reasons for it”.

He noted that the Syrian side has expressed a desire to receive the Turkish delegation when the conditions are appropriate.

Regarding the possibility of former US President Donald Trump visiting Türkiye, Fidan explained that this visit has not yet been confirmed, saying, “There is nothing official yet, and we are still working on these issues”.

He added that discussions on the date and location of the visit, whether in Türkiye or the United States, are still ongoing between the two sides.
