Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said there are indications that Israel is seeking an attack on Iran, as this came during an interview with the Turkish NTV channel on Friday evening.

Regarding the protests in Iran, Fidan said that Iran has gone through such stages in the past, and has witnessed large demonstrations from time to time, adding, “There is a strong reaction among the people to the economic hardship they are experiencing”.

He explained that Iran has been subject to international sanctions for many years due to its foreign and security policies, and that the restrictions imposed on oil exports have significantly reduced its financial potential, which made it difficult to get out of this situation.

“To portray the reaction to economic distress as directed against the regime as demanding its fall may not be a completely realistic analysis in the Iranian case… There are overlapping groups and gray areas that need careful analysis,” Fidan said.

He stressed that foreign countries won’t get what they expect from these protests in Iran, asking: “Are they real protests? Yes, it’s real… Should their demands and needs be taken into account? Yes, it should”.

Fidan pointed out that Tehran believes that an understanding can be reached with the United States on the nuclear issue, but Washington is adding other files besides the nuclear issue.

He stressed that the countries of the region don’t want a new war that opens wide doors of uncertainty.

Regarding foreign intervention in Iran, Fidan said, “We don’t want to open a new big wound while we have barely healed the wounds of Syria and Iraq… But we also have to do our best to solve these problems”.

“As friendly countries, I told Iran everything that needs to be said… We shared our vision of what was right and what should be done… I hope they find a way to solve it, but unfortunately I also have to say that there are indications that Israel is still seeking to launch an attack on Iran”.
